OAK PARK — Two more people looking to buy or sell a cellphone through an ad on Craigslist were robbed at gunpoint in Oak Park.
In this instance, it was the seller who was robbed.
An 18-year-old Oak Park man and his 17-year-old friend from Elmwood Park drove to the 1100 block of Pleasant Street at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 31. But when the seller handed the prospective buyer the iPhone, the buyer pulled a handgun and told both men to turn around. He then rifled the pockets of both victims and stole car keys and a cell phone from one and a cellphone from the other.
The gunman, described as 6-foot, 200 pounds, 20 to 25 years old and sporting dreadlocks, then entered a dark sedan and drove off, while an unidentified accomplice who had stood by entered a brown Honda Civic and drove off.
Earlier in the month, an Indiana man and his companions were robbed of about $8,500 after driving to Oak Park, lured by the offer to buy 23 iPhones for about $370 apiece. The man had placed a Craigslist ad seeking to buy used or damaged phones.
