Chicago Fire Department: 1 dead, 4 injured in Rogers Park crash

One person was killed and four others were critically injured in a crash Thursday night in Rogers Park.
A car struck a tree about 9:10 p.m. in the 2900 block of West Howard, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. Only one car was involved.
The car was speeding when it lost control and struck a tree, Greer said.
One male, the driver, was killed in the crash, Greer said.
Four other people were critically injured and taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to Fire Media Affairs.
A fifth passenger fled the scene of the accident on foot, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. As of Friday morning police were still waiting to speak with the other occupants to determine why the individual may have fled.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
