A 14-year-old northwest Indiana boy was in critical condition after being shot Wednesday in his living room from a bullet outside his home, officials said.
Detective Ray Smith said Merrillville police received calls that gunshots were heard in the 7500 block of Marshall Street about 8:30 p.m.
When police arrived, they found the teen, who had been shot in the head, lying on the living room floor of his family’s home. Smith said police believe the gunshot came from outside the house and went through the window.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to an Illinois hospital. He was listed in critical condition Thursday, Smith said.
Smith said there are no suspects and no description of cars in the area. Police are speaking to neighbors, several of whom heard the shots and contacted police.
