LAKE ZURICH — A north suburban man has been charged with a felony count of theft for scamming nearly $17,000 from a person who paid for an RV he advertised on eBay but never provided to the buyer.
Since 2011 Randy Looke had been placing advertisements on eBay for a 1997 Forest River Reflection Diesel pusher 38-foot motorhome RV, the Lake County sheriff’s office said. Looke listed the advertisement under the company name ins.auto.auctions and his name was Andy Lo.
Looke is the owner of Sound & Video Consultants, 20866 U.S. 12 in Deer Park, the sheriff’s office said.
A prospective buyer who lives in Texas won the high bid of $16,700 for the motorhome and sent Looke a check, the sheriff’s office said. He never received anything and Looke continued to give him the runaround, the sheriff’s office said.
Looke, 44, of the 500 block of Peach Tree Lane in Lake Zurich, was arrested Wednesday and charged with a Class 2 felony count of theft, the sheriff’s office said.
Looke’s bond was set at $10,000 and he is scheduled to return to court at 9 a.m. April 18.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is seeking information from anyone who may have purchased anything from Looke, aka Lo, or through the company ins.auto.auctions. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Looke’s can contact detectives at (847) 377-4152.
