The CTA’s Pink and Green Line trains were briefly halted Tuesday night near the United Center after a piece of metal came off a train and hit the electrified third rail.
No passengers were aboard the train, which was moving equipment near Wood and Monroe when the metal piece hit the third rail and caused some sparking about 9:30 p.m., CTA spokesman Brian Steele said.
As a precaution, the CTA temporarily removed power to the tracks in the area, forcing passenger trains on the Pink and Green lines to be halted for about 12 minutes, Steele said.
No one was hurt, and train service was expected to resume shortly, Steele said.
