Cop finds man swimming — not drowning — in 35-degree lake

Police were surprised and relieved to learn that a man who was thought to be drowning in Montrose Harbor on Tuesday evening was actually out for a swim in the frigid 35 degree waters.

A Chicago Police officer was first on the scene at about 5:30 p.m. and called off other rescuers when he realized the man was not in distress.

“The guy got out of the water. That was the end of it,” Police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

Further details weren’t immediately available.
