Cab driver dies after being shot last week

A cab driver died who was robbed and shot on the South Side last week by two men who hailed his car has died, authorities said.

The 48-year-old driver died Monday at Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, four days after a bullet grazed his head and another landed in his back, authorities said.

Last Thursday, two men climbed into a cabbie’s car and demanded the driver’s possessions when he picked them up for a fare in the 8500 block of South Parnell, police said.

After traveling a little further than a mile, at least one of the men opened fire near West 91st Street and South Lafayette Avenue, striking the cab driver twice, authorities said.

The two fled on foot, taking the cab driver’s cell phone, police said. It is unclear if they also stole money.

No arrests have been made.
