Police on Monday continue to investigate the death of a man who suffered head injuries when he got out of a moving taxicab near his home in the Northwest Side Irving Park neighborhood a week ago.
Matthew Suhar, 46, was in a taxicab that was northbound on Kimball Avenue near West Berteau Avenue about 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, police said.
While the taxi was still moving, he either fell or jumped out, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. Police and paramedics responded to the scene and found Suhar lying in the street, bleeding from his head, Mirabelli said.
He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was initially listed in serious but stable condition, according to Mirabelli. Suhar, of the 3300 block of West Berteau, died at 3:09 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy held on Sunday found that Suhar died from complications of closed head injuries caused by “passenger exiting a moving vehicle,” and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
His death was being investigated by the police Major Accident Investigations Unit, as well as Area North detectives. Police on Monday did not have any additional details, as far as how or why he may have gotten out of the moving taxicab.
