Construction crew strikes gas line on Wacker Drive

November 14, 2009

A gas leak  briefly diverted traffic from Lower Wacker Drive on Saturday morning after a construction crew struck a gas line.

The crew struck a 4-inch gas line  at 155 N. Wacker Dr. about 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Fire Department spokesman Joe Roccasalva.

A Level 1 Hazmat was called for the leak, sending ambulances to the scene. The fire department checked the gas levels of buildings in the area, and no buildings were evacuated, Roccasalva said.

No injuries were reported.

People's Gas responded to the scene and stopped the leak within about 45 minutes, Roccasalva said.
