Teen girl struck by SUV on West Side

A girl about 16 years old who may have been a student at a nearby high school was hospitalized Wednesday morning after she was struck by an SUV in the West Side North Lawndale neighborhood.
Just before 7 a.m., the girl was walking west on Douglas Boulevard in the path of a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe that was northbound on Homan Street, approximately 1400 South, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The girl was struck by the passenger side of the Tahoe, Mirabelli said.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable, Mirabelli said. The girl, believed to be 16 years old, may have been a student at a nearby high school, Mirabelli said. The nearest high school, North Lawndale College Preparatory High School, is about two blocks from where the accident occurred, according to maps of the area.
The driver could face citations for striking a pedestrian in the roadway.
