A man from the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood was being held in lieu of $200,000 bail Sunday after prosecutors said he set off a chain of events that ended with a friend being shot in the head.
Daquan S. Harris, 19, of the 700 block of East 133rd Street, was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm. A prosecutor said he pulled a gun and fired once at another man after getting into an argument with him, but then Harris’ gun jammed.
That’s when the other man fired back at Harris, hitting a friend of Harris’ in the head, Assistant State’s Attorney Lisa Morrison said. The other man whose shot hit Harris’ friend had not been charged as of Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened Friday in the block where Harris lives, according to police reports. Police said Harris admitted to firing the gun.
