Police investigate death of teen mom from Garfield Park

Police are conducting a death investigation after a teenage new mother from the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side died late Sunday.

Desiree Holmes, 16, of the 4040 block of West Jackson Boulevard, was pronounced dead at 11:05 p.m. Sunday at Loretto Hospital, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Holmes had been hospitalized for a few days after suffering a liver ailment, according to the spokesman who said Holmes was the mother of a 3-month-old child.

Authorities indicated Holmes was the victim of domestic abuse at an unidentified date.

An autopsy is scheduled for later Monday.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
