Gage Park students held on $350,000 bail in sex assault at school

A Gage Park High School student forced a learning disabled girl to perform a sex act on him in the South Side school’s band room while his classmate acted as a lookout, Cook County prosecutors said Friday.

The 15-year-old girl, who has the cognitive function of a second-grader, repeatedly told Kory Lindsey she “did not want to do this” after he lured her from the lunch room to the band room on Feb. 20, assistant state’s attorney Jennifer Sexton said.

But Lindsey allegedly told the girl he “would never talk to her again” if she didn’t comply. And when the victim tried to leave, he told her, “No, stay with me,” a police report said.

Lindsey, 18, took the girl behind a white filing cabinet, unbuttoned her blouse and forced her to get on her knees and take off her shoes, Sexton said. In addition to forcing her to perform the sex act, Lindsey also fondled the victim’s breasts, the police report said.

While Lindsey attacked the girl that afternoon, his wrestling teammate Bernard Strong, of the 6700 block of South Artesian, allegedly stood at the door leading to the band room.

Some other students walked into the music room but when a ROTC instructor came in, all dispersed except Strong, who hid in the white filing cabinet, Sexton said.

The instructor saw the girl, who was wearing a ROTC uniform, button up her blouse, and reported the incident to school authorities, Sexton said.

The girl’s father took her to a hospital, where she was examined and potential evidence was collected for a rape kit.

Lindsey and Strong, 18, were caught on video surveillance and were identified by personnel at the school, at 5630 S. Rockwell, Sexton said. The girl identified the teenagers in a lineup.

Lindsey, of the 6900 block of Maplewood, was arrested at his home Thursday. Strong, a self-admitted Gangster Disciple, was arrested a short time later as he made his way to Lindsey’s home.

Lindsey and Strong are both seniors and members of the school’s wrestling team, defense attorney Jack Wilk said. Strong also is a member of the band and lives at the home of a South Side pastor, Wilk said.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. ordered Lindsey and Strong held in lieu of $350,000 bail Friday for aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Family members for both men refused to comment after the bond hearing.

Gage Park officials were not immediately available for comment.

Citing privacy and confidentiality clauses, Chicago Public Schools officials said they don’t comment on studentss.
