Woman killed in single-car crash on I-65

An Indianapolis woman was killed Saturday in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in northwest Indiana.

Indiana State Police said a 2001 Ford Explorer traveling north on I-65 at 6:15 p.m. lost control at the 226-mile marker, about 4 miles south of DeMotte, for unknown reasons. The driver overcorrected and rolled over onto the driver’s side before skidding and rolling several more times and landing in a ditch.

The driver, 42-year-old Joyce McQuiller of Indianapolis, needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt, state police said.

Northbound I-65 remained open during the investigation and for the removal of the deceased and the vehicle, police said.

Indiana State Police were assisted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Jasper County Coroner’s Office and the Keener Township Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
