Will County Executive Larry Walsh is nominating his son, Shawn Walsh, to fill the Will County regional superintendent of schools vacancy.
Shawn Walsh, who is the current assistant regional superintendent, was selected by a committee made up of school administrators.
Larry Walsh is forwarding the name Thursday to the Will County Board executive committee meeting. However, full county board approval will be needed.
The board could act on the appointment Feb. 21.
The county board is split between 13 Republicans and 13 Democrats. Should there be a tie vote, the county executive would cast the deciding vote.
The vacancy was created when Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant was elected to the Illinois Senate in November.
