Three police officers were injured when their squad car crashed into a building as they chased down a stolen car early Wednesday on the South Side.
About 2:25 a.m., the officers spotted a stolen dark-colored sedan in the 6900 block of South Anthony Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The driver of the sedan refused to stop, Alfaro said, and the officers pursued the car into an alley in the 500 block of East 73rd Street, where the squad car crashed into a building.
Three officers were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries, Alfaro said.
Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said paramedics took only one officer to a hospital. That officer was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and listed in serious but “stable” condition, Langford said, adding that the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the sedan was taken into custody and charges were pending Wednesday morning, police said.
