Supporters of same-sex marriage rallied Sunday in the rain outside Holy Name Cathedral to call out Chicago Cardinal Francis George for his opposition to legislation that would legalize those unions.
“Advocating discrimination against any group of people is bigotry and we’re going to call it such,” said Andy Thayer, co-founder of Gay Liberation Network, sponsor of the rally that drew about 20 picketers to the church.
George and his auxiliary bishops earlier this year released a letter opposing same-sex marriages, contending such unions run counter to natural law.
