Two firefighters were hospitalized after a blaze erupted at a home on the South Side early Tuesday.
One firefighter experienced a “shortness of breath” and was taken in serious but “stable” condition to the University of Chicago Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs. Another firefighter suffered an ankle injury and was also taken to the University of Chicago, Fire Media Affairs said.
The fire broke out at a two-story building in the 7000 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, Fire Media Affairs said, adding that the blaze spread to a home next door.
Fire Media Affairs said the Red Cross was helping people displaced by the fire.
