Dixon teen charged in fatal shooting of South Side man

A 17-year-old from Downstate Dixon was charged Wednesday with killing one man and wounding two others in a shooting Tuesday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
Quovadus Mahomes was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Devin Common, 27, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of two other men in the 7400 block of South Champlain, authorities said. Police recovered a weapon at the scene, according to police News Affairs. He will appear in bond court Thursday.
“I couldn’t believe it was happening all over again,” Common’s mother, Kimberly Common, said Tuesday. She had lost another son, 23-year-old Antonio Common, to gun violence in October 2011 in an alley near a corner store at 75th Street and Langley, two blocks from the family’s home in the 7300 block of South Champlain.
Devin Common left their home Tuesday afternoon, heading for the corner store, she said. Soon after, a neighbor was banging on her door, telling her he had been killed a block away.
“He said he’d be right back,” Kimberly Common said.
