Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Ross Boswell sentenced Riley Choate to 80 years in prison for neglect in the death of his 13-year-old son and for being an habitual offender.
Choate apologized for his actions and said he loved his son, Christian, who died April 2, 2009, the Post-Tribune is reporting.
Deputy prosecutor Michael Woods said Choate turned on his own son “not just in a moment of anger but in a lengthy, perpetual, cruel and depraved fashion.”
The child was confined in a dog cage, beaten and fed minimal amounts of food. At the time of his death, Christian weighed 58 pounds and wore size six clothes.
