Karli Casey blacked out at the wheel while “huffing” fumes from a computer cleaner and struck another car head-on, injuring four people, Cook County prosecutors said.
The 20-year-old Palatine woman was sentenced Wednesday to five years in prison for triggering the 2012 crash that was so forceful it flipped her car upside down.
Casey was ordered to prison by Judge Ellen Mandeltort after pleading guilty to an upgraded felony DUI involving intoxicating compounds.
She faced a maximum 12-year sentence.
The April 28, 2012 crash in Palatine critically injured an 84-year-old woman who was riding in the car struck by Casey’s vehicle. The driver of that vehicle also was hurt, while two passenger’s in Casey’s car also were injured, authorities said.
