A man already in jail awaiting trial for two alleged sexual assaults has now been charged with breaking into two East Garfield Park homes and raping women as they slept last summer.
Tyreese Richardson, of the 3200 block of West Fulton, broke into the home of a 34-year-old woman as she slept alone in her bedroom in the 2700 block of West Adams about 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2012, according to court documents.
Richardson — wearing a mask and armed with a knife — is accused of tying the woman’s hands and feet together with an electrical cord sexually assaulting her and stealing her engagement ring, according to court documents.
DNA collected at the hospital had a “strong association” to Richardson, court documents said. Richardson later admitted to breaking into the home through an open window and sexually assaulting the woman.
In the Aug. 25 incident, Richardson waited until a man got out of bed to use the washroom about 6 a.m., before entering the room in the 2700 block of West Gladys through an open window and sexually assaulting the man’s 19-year-old girlfriend, according to court documents.
Richardson put furniture in front of the door to prevent the boyfriend from re-entering the room, then put a pillow over the woman’s face, tied her hands with cable wire and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint, court documents said.
The boyfriend eventually forced the door open, punched Richardson and grabbed his hat as he fled through an open window, according to court documents. DNA collected from the hat matched Richardson’s, according to documents.
The woman and her boyfriend identified Richardson in a lineup and he later admitted to the attacks, according to court documents.
Richardson was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and Judge Laura Sullivan ordered him held without bond Wednesday.
Richardson has two pending aggravated criminal sexual assault cases pending from July 2012, court documents said. He was being held on a $1.5 million bond in those cases.
Richardson is accused of breaking into homes in the 2700 blocks of West Jackson and West Adams between July 27 and Aug. 5, police said. He allegedly sexually assaulted the victims, then fled through a rear window or door.
Detectives used DNA evidence that linked Richardson to the assaults in those cases as well.
Richardson was convicted of residential burglary in 2010 and possession of a controlled substance in 2011, according to court documents. He received two years’ probation for the burglary and served one year in prison for the drug charges. He also had numerous juvenile convictions.
