Two good samaritans tackled a man who allegedly robbed a woman’s purse Sunday in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Jose Rodriguez, 30, was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and a warrant for a parole violation, according to a release from Chicago Police News Affairs.
A 29-year-old woman was walking in the 800 block of West Diversey at 11:45 p.m. Saturday when Rodriguez approached her from behind, placed his arm around her neck and held a screwdriver against her torso while demanding money, police said. He then fled with her purse.
A 20-year-old man saw what happened and chased Rodriguez on Diversey, police said. He shouted to a 24-year-old man walking towards them to stop Rodriguez.
Both men tackled Rodriguez to the ground and held him until police arrived. A screwdriver was found next to Rodriguez.
The woman suffered a bruise near her rib cage, police said.
Rodriguez, who was on parole, was expected in bond court Sunday.
