Buffalo Grove bank is first to be robbed in area this year

In what was apparently the first area bank robbery of the new year, a bundled-up bandit robbed a Chase Bank branch in northwest suburban Buffalo Grove on Thursday.
The robbery occurred at the Chase branch at 1160 E. Lake Cook Rd., according to the FBI. The robber, described as a white man in his 30s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, with his head covered by a winter knit hat and his face covered by a scarf.
The robber did not show a weapon and no injuries were reported.

Buffalo Grove police were not immediately available to comment.
It was the first reported bank robbery of 2013 in the Chicago area. In 2012, there were at least 218 bank robberies in the area and in 2011 there were 115, according to the FBI.
