Delays on CTA Red Line caused by smoky brakes on train

An odor of smoke, apparently related to a brake issue, resulted in some CTA Red Line train passengers having to evacuate a train in the subway downtown and caused a delay of about 25 minutes Friday morning.
The incident happened about 6 a.m. near the Jackson Red Line station.
Passengers on the train smelled smoke, apparently from an issue with the train’s brakes, CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said. While there was no fire and no passengers were injured, they did evacuate the train, she said, and firefighters were called to investigate.
The incident caused a delay of about 24 minutes for the Red Line.
Firefighters were able to get a handle on the situation about 6:25 a.m., ensuring there was no fire and no one needed medical attention, according to dispatch reports.
