Picnic permits go on sale Jan. 2 for picnics next year in Cook County’s forest preserves. Permits are required for groups of 25 or more. Two picnic permits per person or organization are allowed per year. Fees depend on the size of the group and whether a picnic shelter will be used. In-person sales take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the headquarters of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County in River Forest. Online sales start at 8 a.m. Jan. 2 at the district’s website —
