Metra back on schedule after two train cars derail downtown

Metra service was back to normal Friday night after a derailment downtown about 6 p.m. caused temporary delays on three different lines. No one was hurt.
Wheels on the second and third car of a Metra train left the tracks near 155 N. Canal St., just north of the Ogilvie Transportation Center.
The train was heading to Union station with no passengers aboard, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. It was moving “pretty slowly” when two of the train cars jumped the rails. None of the crew members was hurt. A track switch broke during the derailment, Metra’s website said.
Trains on the North Central Service and Milwaukee West and North lines were temporarily delayed for up to 25 minutes but were running on the normal schedule as of 7:30 p.m., the website said.
One train, outbound train No. 2245 headed from Chicago to Elgin on the Milwaukee District West line, had to be canceled, the website said. Another train was scheduled to accomodate its passengers.
