How does Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th) alleviate the stress of a being married to someone who is struggling with bipolar disorder and under investigation by federal authorities who are looking in to his finances?

“The best thing for me is I don’t read any newspapers and I don’t watch any news,” Jackson said Thursday night between doling out hugs and kisses to constituents at the South Shore Cultural Center.

“We give her briefings,” chimed in Jackson’s chief of staff, Keiana Barrett.

Jackson, whose two children go to school in Washington, D.C., where her family has a home, said she will be spending Christmas and New Year’s Day in Chicago.

Her husband, Jesse Jackson Jr., who recently resigned from Congress after an extended absence during which he was in and out of the Mayo Clinic for treatment of a bipolar disorder, is “doing well, taking it day by day,” she said.

“My kids have asthma, so this time of year always messes with them, so we’re hoping they stay healthy. My daughter always battles with pneumonia this time of year, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” she said.

Jackson dropped into a dinner held by Pangea, a real estate firm that has purchased and fixed up hundreds of apartment units in her ward, between meeting with constituents at her South Shore aldermanic office.
