While it may not have been as daring an escape as Tuesday’s Downtown jailbreak, the sight of about a half dozen horses walking about an alley in the Old Town neighborhood prompted more than a few people to call police Wednesday morning.
The horses got loose about 8:45 a.m. near North Sedgwick and West Schiller streets -- near the Noble Horse Theatre and stable, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
Between six and eight horses got loose in the area, but didn’t get very far, Estrada said. The horses were in an alley behind the stables, and police who responded blocked off a further escape routes by positioning their squad cars at the ends of the alley, he said.
“They just got loose and were in the alley behind the horse theatre,” Estrada said.
Police also assisted with traffic control, and made sure none of the horses posed any threat to the general public, Estrada said. The city’s Department of Animal Control was also notified.
The horses were soon corralled and brought back to their home by employees of the horse theatre, Estrada said.
