(PALATINE) Three children were taken to hospitals with minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when a pickup truck struck a school bus in Palatine.

At 4:20 p.m., the Palatine Fire Department responded to the two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Frontage Road and Bayside Drive, a release from the fire department said.

The accident involved a pickup truck and a District 15 school bus with 25 children onboard. Damage from the accident was considered moderate, the release said.

Three children from the bus required transportation to area hospitals with minor injuries and the male driver from the pickup truck was treated on the scene and taken to Northwest Community Hospital for further evaluation.

The driver of the bus had no complaints and the remaining uninjured children were released to School District 15 officials.

The Palatine Fire Department responded with an engine, a squad, two ambulances and a shift commander. The Long Grove Fire Department assisted with one ambulance.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. The Cook County Sheriff’s police is handling the investigation.
