A Dunbar Academy student was shot while riding a school bus after a basketball game in the South Side Englewood neighborhood Monday evening, police said.
The bus, which was transporting the basketball team back following the game, was near West 62nd Street and South Stewart Avenue about 7:53 p.m. when three or four gunman aimed at the bus and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said.
The 18-year-old victim, a Dunbar student, was struck by a bullet in left leg and was the only shooting victim, police said. The bus driver drove him to Provident Hospital of Cook County, where he is listed in good condition.
The team was from Dunbar Vocational Career Academy at 3000 S. King Dr, had played a game at Englewood Technical Prep Academy at 6201 S Stewart Ave., according to a CPS spokesman, who would not provide further details.
No one was in custody early Tuesday and Area South detectives are investigating.
