Five elderly residents hospitalized from Humboldt Park fire

Five residents of a senior citizen’s residential living facility in the Humboldt Park neighborhood were hospitalized after a fire Friday morning.
The elderly residents were suffering from effects of the fire such as smoke inhalation, though their conditions were thought to be serious of life-threatening, according to police.
The fire occurred in the facility in the 1400 block of North California Avenue about 9 a.m., according to police.
Three of the residents were taken to Saint Mary Hospital, and two were taken to Norwegian-American Hospital, according to police.
The cause of the fire was not immediately know, though it was not thought to be criminal in nature. A Fire Media Affairs representative was not immediately available for comment.
