Overnight winter parking ban starts at 3 a.m. Saturday

It’s that time again. The city is reminding drivers the overnight winter parking ban begins early Saturday, despite the lack of snow.
The ban begins Saturday at 3 a.m. and will be reinforced along 107 miles of what the city calls critical arterial streets, from Dec. 1 until April 1, 2013 between the hours of 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., regardless of whether there’s snowfall, according to the city’s Department of Streets and Sanitation said.
Drivers who ignore, or forget the ban will face a $150 minimum towing fee, a $60 ticket and a storage fee of $10 per day which will increase over time.
Last year 188 vehicles were towed for violating the overnight parking ban and about 459 violations were issued, the department said.
The city says drivers who ignore the ban prevent routes from being fully plowed and salted when it snows. And a build-up of snow next to parked vehicles might slow down traffic during heavy snowfall.
