North suburban man struck, killed by Metra train

A Wilmette man died after he was struck by a Metra train on the Northwest Side Friday evening, authorities said.
Richard Garza, 56, was hit near the Irving Park station in the 3900 block of North Avondale Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs.
As a result, a Union Pacific/Northwest Line train heading to Crystal Lake from Chicago was stopped near the station, according to an alert on Metra’s website. The train, which was expected to arrive at the northwest suburb at 7:08 p.m., was delayed roughly three hours.
