Police searching for a northwest suburban woman missing since May found skeletal remains in a wooded area not far from her Hampshire home.
Police found the remains and clothing about 7:50 a.m. in a heavily wooded area behind a house in the 1800 block of Cameron Drive in Hampshire, according to the Kane County Sheriff’s office.
Hampshire police were searching the area for Kathey Wilk, whose brother reported her missing May 7, the sheriff’s office said. Police were searching that area now because “the weather turned and the heavy dense brush died off.”
Wilk’s family has been notified, but detectives have not yet identified the remains, sheriff’s police said. Police hope dental records will provide a positive identification.
Wilk, 52, of the 1700 block of Cameron Drive in Hampshire, has a history of suicide attempts and a suicide note was found inside her home after she went missing.
Sheriff’s police are conducting a “death investigation” because the remains were found just outside village limits.
