Thanks to unseasonably warm temperatures, the Chicago Park District will delay the opening of several outdoor skating rinks.
Seven of the park district’s nine outdoor rinks were set to open Friday, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
So just a few of the rinks will open Friday:
† McKinley Park at 2210 W. Pershing.
† Midway Plaisance Park, 1130 Midway Plaisance North.
† Warren Park, 6601 N. Western.
On Saturday, the park district expects to open the rinks at:
† Mt. Greenwood Park, 3721 W. 111th.
† Riis Park, 6100 W. Fullerton Ave.
†Rowan Park, 11546 S. Avenue L.
The seasonal rink at Wrigley Field, on Clark north of Addison, is expected to open next Wednesday.
Most of the rinks will remain open until Feb. 24th, though the Wrigley spot will stay open until March, 3 – weather permitting.
In all, the park district operates 10 rinks — including the indoor facility at McFetridge Sports Center, 3843 N. California, which is open 11 months of the year but closed in August.
Two outdoor rinks are closed for construction this season: Daley Bicentennial Plaza — to be renamed Maggie Daley Park — and West Lawn Park.
Hours vary as do skate rental prices. Although admission is free to most of the rinks, both McFetridge and Wrigley charge to get in. For more details call 312-742-7529 or go to www.chicagoparkdistrict.com
