A Chicago woman is accused of robbing her mother of a $40,000, 3.5-carat diamond engagement ring last month before fleeing in a Smart car.
Prosecutors said 36-year-old Julie P. Franck of the 2900 block of N. Central Park Avenue wore a ski mask so her mother wouldn’t recognize her during the Oct. 9 attack in the 1700 block of North Marshfield Avenue.
But a witness pulled the ski mask off. And prosecutors also said a second suspect shot the victim with a Taser about 15 times.
Franck was arrested Friday and appeared in bond court on charges of armed robbery Sunday. She’s also accused in police reports of stealing credit and debit cards and $200 in cash from her mother. A judge set Franck’s bail at $300,000.
