Woman dies after pulled from suburban canal

A woman died after authorities pulled her out of a canal Saturday morning in Evanston, officials said.
The 24-year-old woman allegedly jumped into the canal near Main Street and McCormick Boulevard about 10 a.m., according to the Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services.
With the help of witnesses, Evanston authorities working with the Skokie Fire Department were able to find the woman, who was then taken in critical condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.
The woman —Andia Ymeraj, of the 8500 block of Skokie Boulevard in Skokie — was pronounced dead at 12:26 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy for Ymeraj is scheduled for Sunday.
