Tipsville . . .
Sneed hears rumbles that President Barack Obama has his eye on Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick to replace Attorney General Eric “Fast & Furious” Holder , who is hoping to stay long enough to make it look like he’s not resigning because of a congressional probe into the sale of government guns to drug cartels during his tenure in office. Patrick, who grew up on Chicago’s South Side, dined at the White House on Friday.
◆ Translation: Holder may hold out in office for another year.
The Petraeus affair . . .
It’s ironic: Paula Broadwell (above), the former mistress/biographer of ex-CIA chief/four-star Gen. David Petraeus — who stepped down after he was caught stepping out — reportedly lives in the wealthy Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte, N.C., just a few blocks from the nation’s other notorious mistress, Rielle Hunter.
◆ Backshot: Hunter had an affair with Dem presidential hopeful John Edwards, a relationship that produced a daughter, Quinn, and ended his marriage to the late Elizabeth Edwards.
The Petraeus affair II . . .
The Ultimate Chutzpah: Despite media fallout over Petraeus’ affair and subsequent resignation, the Charlotte Observer reported that Broadwell, who is married to a physician and the mother of two sons, was in D.C. for the weekend celebrating her birthday with her family. But the party was canceled.
The Petraeus affair III . . .
Consequences, consequences: Sneed hears rumbles that Jill Kelley (right), the woman who went to an FBI agent pal to report anonymous emails that led to disclosure of Gen. Petraeus’ affair with Broadwell, is horribly upset that the FBI probe she initiated resulted in Petraeus’ decision to resign.
Pippa place . . .
Pity poor Pippa (above), the sister of Prince William’s new wife, Kate Middleton — and the derriere queen of England — is now suffering from low book sales. Pippa’s party-planning book, “Celebrate” — much maligned by critics — is apparently not very popular with the buying public. The book is No. 279 on Amazon’s best-seller list.
Hoop du jour . . .
It’s time for a new Sacred Peace tournament . . . with rival street gangs!
◆ To wit: Watch for NBA star Isiah Thomas to join forces with Christ the King College Preparatory School’s Father Chris Devron to host a basketball tournament at the West Side school Saturday composed of . . . West Side gangs.
◆ The stats: “There will be four teams: one is comprised of members of a Latino gang — and three teams are African-American gang members,” Devron said. Mesirow’s Les Coney “has promised to underwrite the whole thing either personally or through fund-raising,” Devron told Sneed.
◆ Backshot: The new basketball tournament follows in the wake of one hosted by Father Michael Pfleger near St. Sabina Church for South Side gang members in September.
I spy . . .
Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson at Rosebud Prime with a party of 20 on Saturday, before his team trashed the Chicago Bears on Sunday night . . . Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith powered up for his big game Sunday with family and friends at his usual haunt, Joe’s Stone Crab . . . Also spotted at the restaurant was Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher with his brother, Casey, and friends.
Sneedlings . . .
Tuesday’s birthdays: Billy Siegel, 65; Whoopi Goldberg, 57, and Chris Noth, 58.
