Man struck by CTA train in Logan Square in ‘serious’ condition

A man is in serious condition after he fell on the “L” tracks at the Logan Square Blue Line stop and was struck by a CTA train, authorities said early Sunday.
The man, whose age was not released, was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.
Authorities say they do not yet know what caused the man to fall on the tracks and the precise time the accident occurred at is unknown, according to CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis, who cited preliminary information.
Lukidis said the man was on the tracks when he was struck by the train sometime before 1 a.m. The man did not contact the third rail because the train forced his body to the inside edge of the tracks and away the high-voltage rail, authorities said.
While the man was struck by a southbound train, CTA workers cut power to both tracks in the area, Lukidis said. A bus shuttle is being used to transport riders through areas affected by the shutdown.
