Three correctional officers were among the eight people injured in a traffic accident on the Southwest Side Saturday afternoon.
The officers were on their way to work when the car they were traveling in collided with a Mercedes about 2:43 p.m. near 31st and Rockwell streets, authorities said.
One of the officers was in surgery for a broken leg at Mount Sinai Hospital Saturday night, said Cook County Sheriff’s office spokesman Frank Bilecki. Another officer was released and third officer was expected to be released later Saturday night, Bilecki said.
The trio was not in a county vehicle at the time of the accident, Bilecki said.
A child and two adults were inside the Mercedes that struck the car with the correctional officers, Bilecki said.
