A police officer was hospitalized after his squad car collided with a semitruck early Thursday in the Ashburn neighborhood on the South West Side, police said.
The accident happened in the 2600 block of West 79th Street about 1:40 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer, citing preliminary information.
A male officer suffered some sort of hand or arm injury and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Greer said, adding that the officer’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A police source said the officer might have broken a bone when the squad car’s air bag was deployed.
The officer’s partner did not ask for medical treatment, Greer said.
No charges or citations have been issued as of early Thursday, police said.
