Job-application system hacked in Plainfield School District 202

People who applied for a job in the Plainfield School District during the last several years got a nasty message over the weekend, courtesy of a computer hacker.
The district put out an alert Saturday saying its employment application system was hacked, and that a “highly inappropriate and offensive message” went out to thousands of job applicants.
District spokesman Thomas Hernandez released a follow-up statement on Monday saying the district was still working with authorities and a third-party software vendor to determine whether any personal or confidential information also was hacked. The system that was hacked was not part of the district’s network.
Hernandez said district officials were working with local police and the FBI to identify and prosecute whoever hacked into the system.
“Most especially, we apologize to everyone who received this email for the concern and fear that naturally results from a situation like this,” the district statement said. “We will continue to update you on our investigation into this incident, and we will do everything that we can to protect the privacy and security of our current and prospective staff and students.”
