A Kentucky State University quarterback was charged with allegedly inappropriately touching a woman at a Downtown hotel, police said.
Martez James, 22, was charged with misdemeanor battery, after a woman told police at 10:40 a.m. Saturday he allegedly made inappropriate contact with her at the Hyatt Regency in the 2300 block of South King Dr. After he was arrested Saturday, he was released on a personal recognizance bond, officials said.
WMAQ-TV Channel 5 reported that the woman was a maid at the hotel.
The Detroit, Mich., native is a senior at Kentucky State University, according to the school’s website.
“The University is aware of allegations made against Mr. James and is currently investigating the matter,” the university’s Sports Information Director Danielle Wright said.
The university had no further comment other than to say James remains on the football team as school officials investigate.
The team was in town for the 2012 Chicago Football Classic.
Kentucky State lost to Albany State 17-14 later that day at Soldier Field.
Channel 5 reported that James did not play in the game.
