A Streamwood man who allegedly kidnapped an acquaintance Friday morning — causing several nearby schools to be placed on lockdown as dozens of police conducted an eight-hour manhunt — is in police custody.
Streamwood police said Saturday that Keewon Taylor, 20, surrendered late Friday night at the Cook County Courthouse in suburban Maywood. He was charged with armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking and home invasion.
Police say a 30-year-old man, who knew Taylor from a relationship that was not explained, was taken at gunpoint at 11:20 a.m. Friday from a home on the 3000 block of Lynwood Court in Streamwood. Armed with a shotgun, Taylor allegedly ordered the man to get into a car and drive him to an undisclosed location.
But, police say, the victim tried to escape from the moving car soon after that, the car crashed into a fence and the offender fled on foot toward a densely wooded area near Lake Street and Park Boulevard.
