Vehicle fatally strikes woman in Chatham

A 59-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle Friday in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.
The woman was attempting to cross the 500 block of East 79th Street at 6:50 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Rose Harris, of the 1100 block of North Leclaire Avenue, was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. at Holy Cross Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
