A female federal judge is among the contenders under consideration for the spot to fill the vacancy left by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.
Virginia Kendall, a former federal prosecutor who helped make strides in enforcement against child predators and human traffickers, is among those under consideration. Sources also say that Lori Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor who is now a defense lawyer, has also been in the mix.
Kendall is not handling cases while she is up for the position.
“While Judge Kendall is under consideration for the position of United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, the Executive Committee has directed me to reassign the criminal cases,” said Court Clerk Thomas Bruton. “The cases will be presided over by Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer and Judge Amy St. Eve during this time frame. “
