Boy, 17, fatally shot on the South Side

A teenage boy was shot dead while walking with friends in the Oakland neighborhood Wednesday night on the South Side.
The 17-year-old boy – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as Dejuan Jackson – was shot once in the head at 7:07 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue, said police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti, citing preliminary information.
Jackson, of the 3900 block of South Lake Park Avenue, had been walking with friends when the shooter opened fire, police and the medical examiner’s office said.
He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Area Central detectives are investigating but no one was in custody late Wednesday.
