Radio personalities Don and Roma Wade are taking a break from their WLS-AM morning show while Wade is treated for a growth on his brain, the station says.
Doctors discovered the growth after Wade, 71, suffered a seizure while travelling last week.
He’ll undergo surgery this week and will be off the air for at least four weeks, according to a statement posted on the WLS website.
Wade, who has hosted the “Don Wade and Roma” show since 1989, joked that politics was to blame for his health problems. “I think it’s all the BS coming from the left that really gave me the seizure,” he said, according to the statement.
His wife, Roma, added, “It amazes me that Don can still be the smartest guy in the room with only half his brain.”
Bruce Wolf and Dan Proft will fill in on the Don Wade and Roma program from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., while Jake Hartford and Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass will substitute from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
