5 hospitalized when CTA bus hits car on SW Side
Five people were hospitalized Saturday morning when a CTA bus and a car collided in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood.
Chicago Fire Department personnel were notified at 9:58 a.m. of the crash at 46th Street and Kedzie Avenue, according to Fire Media Affairs spokeswoman Meg Ahlheim said.
According to preliminary reports, a northbound No. 52 Kedzie/California bus was near the intersection of 46th and Kedzie when a car was pulling out of a parking spot and was struck by the bus, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.
An EMS Plan I response, which sends at least five ambulances to the scene, was called by fire department officials.
Two people were taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital, two were taken in fair to serious condition to Holy Cross Hospital, and one person in critical condition was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Ahlheim said. Ahlheim did not have a breakdown of how many of those hospitalized were in the car or bus.
Another 11 people were evaluated at the scene and refused hospitalization, Ahlheim said. The EMS plan was secured at 10:25 a.m.
